Appointments can be booked by contacting reception. The smear test aims to detect changes in the cervix (neck of the womb) before they become dangerous so that they can be treated.
The Surgery’s screening intervals are:
No routine screening for women under the age of 25
Women aged 25-49 will be screened every 3 years
Women aged 50-64 will be screened every 5 years
(Unless otherwise advised by a doctor)
Smear tests are usually performed by Carol Dolphin, Practice Nurse. We have a recall system in place to advise women in advance of their next smear test.
Patients who receive a letter of invitation to attend for a smear should make an appointment with the Practice Nurse. Patients wishing to check their results (and it is always wise to do this) should wait between 4 & 5 weeks before doing so - the approximate time taken by the laboratory to process the tests.
If you are newly registered with the Practice, please inform us of the approximate date of your last cervical smear in order that we can put you into our recall system.
