BMA collective action - next steps
Following the GPC England ballot on whether GP partners would be willing to participate in collective action which closed on Monday, the overwhelming majority of votes cast were for the 'yes' option.
For those who have not yet seen the results:
Number of eligible voters: 12,590
Total number of votes cast: 8,518
Turnout was at 67.7%
98.3% voted 'yes' (8,375)
1.7% 'no' (143)
Number of spoilt ballots was zero
Dr Katie Bramall-Stainer, Chair of GPC England, has this message for the profession:
"This is a marathon not a sprint, a slow burn not a big bang.
We are not on strike, we are spending more time with each patient we see - this is about quality not quantity.
Focus on your practice, focus on the patient in front of you.
Whilst practices still close, and we've lost 2,000 since 2010, we must act to save general practice!"
The BMA's most recent resources for practices include a video explaining what the ballot result means for GPs and one explaining to patients why the actions being taken are in their interests.
